Doubting Thomas, through the eye of a needle. Eating fish on Friday, chocolate eggs with Easter. Celebrating Saint-Martin, Saint-Nicholas and Father Christmas. What do these expressions, customs and holidays have in common? That’s right, they are all rooted in various religious traditions.

In this exhibition you will discover that many contemporary idioms, symbols, holidays and customs are shaped by Christian traditions present in our region. Even when at first glance you would not connect them to religion at all.

Beyond belief, you might say. Discover the origins of ‘hocus-pocus’, Saint-John’s wort, the unicorn, the Christmas tree, hearts on Saint-Valentine’s Day and pumpkins on Halloween. Be amazed by the myriad of present-day examples.
