PARCUM presents its first exhibition of highlights from its own unique collection
2 July 2019
From 3 July to 3 November, 2019, with the exhibition This is not a collection PARCUM is showcasing a selection of the heritage items it cherishes and protects. In this special exhibition it simultaneously questions its own collection and how it is compiled.
As a dialogue museum of religion, art and culture, PARCUM collects, conserves and manages religious heritage. For the first time, it is now giving visitors an overview of the great diversity of its own collection. But this exhibition is more than just a summary, it also highlights the timeless and universal themes the exhibits embody.
"Religious heritage is not just surprisingly multifaceted, it's also highly topical," says curator Liesbet Kusters. "Since time immemorial people have been asking existential questions. Throughout the ages, cultures have endeavoured to answer these questions through cultural and artistic expression. They still do today." Themes such as physicality, love, identity, guilt, desire, life and death therefore feature in this exhibition.
